A Day Trip to the Hometown of the Xiang King
Hooray, today was the day our class went on a field trip to
Xiangcheng County in Henan Province! This place is famous for
being the hometown of the Xiang King from the Warring States
Period over 2,000 years ago. I was so excited to learn about
history while having fun with my friends.
We left school early and rode buses for a couple of hours to
get there. As we got closer, I could see the countryside with
farms and villages. Our first stop was the Xuezhuang Village,
which looked like it came straight out of ancient times! The roads
were narrow and winding, with small houses made of grey bricks
lining the paths.
Our tour guide told us this village was rebuilt based on
historical records to show what it looked like back when the
Xiang King lived here. He was a powerful leader who fought
against the Qin Dynasty before they unified China. Walking
through the village, I felt like I had traveled back in time over
2,200 years!
We visited recreations of old houses, workshops, and even
the mansion where the Xiang King would have lived. The
furniture and decorations inside looked just like in my history
books. I could imagine nobles and servants walking around in
long robes. Everything from the wooden beams to the tiled roofs
seemed authentic. My favorite was checking out the armory with
different weapons and armor on display. The swords and spears
looked so heavy!
For lunch, we had a chance to make our own traditional
noodle dishes. The chef taught us how to knead and stretch the
dough, then add different toppings like vegetables, meat, and
sauces. It was tricky at first but once I got the hang of it, the
noodles tasted delicious! The flavors reminded me of food my
grandparents make.
After eating, we walked along the "Loyalty Path" which had
stone carvings and statues about the Xiang King's life and
military achievements. There were detailed battle scenes,
portraits of the king on his horse, and inscriptions describing his
tactics and values. Our guide explained how the carvings were
