Love Sports, Love Life!
Hi friends! My name is Tommy and I'm a 4th grader at Sunny
Hills Elementary School. Today I want to talk to you about why
it's so important to love sports and being active. It's something
I'm really passionate about!
You might be thinking, "But Tommy, I'm just a kid. Why do I
need to worry about exercise now?" Well, let me tell you -
developing healthy habits when you're young makes it so much
easier to keep them up as you get older. And being active isn't
just great for your body, it's awesome for your mind and spirit
too!
First of all, playing sports and getting regular exercise helps
you grow up strong and healthy. It builds muscle, strengthens
your bones, improves coordination and balance, and gives you
more energy. I play soccer, basketball, and baseball, and I can
really feel the difference in how much better I move and how
much stamina I have compared to when I'm just sitting around.
You'll stay trimmer and have less risk of gaining too much weight
too. Doctors say at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day is
ideal for kids our age. That sounds like a lot, but it can include
stuff like walking to school, gym class, recess, and just playing
actively too - not just organized sports.
Being active isn't just about looking and feeling good
physically though. It gives your brain and emotional health an
amazing boost too! Have you ever gone for a long walk or run
and felt just totally relaxed and happy afterwards? That's
because exercise releases cool chemicals in your brain called
endorphins that make you feel great. It's also the perfect way to
blow off steam and get rid of any bottled up stress, anger, or
anxiety you might have. I always feel so much calmer and more
focused after basketball practice. My mind just feels clearer.
Sports are also an awesome way to make new friends and be
part of a team. Some of my very best buddies are kids I've met
through the different sports I play. We encourage each other,
celebrate our wins together, and pick each other up if we're
feeling down after a tough loss. Being part of a team teaches you
about commitment, discipline, good sportsmanship, and
working together towards a common goal. These are skills that'll
help you out so much in life!
