local level around the world.
ZTE’s CSR strategy is to pro-actively develop, implement and improve CSR
compliance throughout ZTE and its supply chain based on industry best practices,
continuous learning and improvement efforts. Its objective is to develop into a global CSR
leader long-term.
ZTE has do a great favor for 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’s telecommunication
this year. It has convened the “World Cup Communication Security Meeting” with Cell C,
the mobile operator in South Africa, to ensure the stability and security of communications
during the World Cup. The meeting addresses the real-time challenges of maintaining the
extensive and complicated communications network for the global sporting event,
including wireless voice services, data services, transmission and other communications
and security services which are provided by ZTE. For 28 of the most important matches,
ZTE also deployed its leading SDR solutions to provide services and coverage to the four
major cities in South Africa where the World Cup matches are being hosted, namely Cape
Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and Elizabeth.
The SDR solution ensures the communications stability and security of the World
Cup stadium, fans' parks, airport, major hotels and other major entertainment areas. In
addition, ZTE holds the exclusive right to deploy the national mobile bearer network of
Cell C to offer the World Cup committees, players, staff and fans a mobile network with
high-bandwidth and stability.
To cope with the demands and requirements of communication within a very short
period of time, ZTE set up a “Communication Security Group” that brings together more
than 120 technical experts to provide comprehensive real-time communication support.
Even before the World Cup started, ZTE had conducted an emergency drill on June 9th,
2010 to ensure that emergency communications are able to run smoothly during the
matches.
Core network equipment and base stations were all checked during the drill to ensure
that they were running in good condition. Extra emergency drills which deal with
unexpected breakdowns were also repeatedly performed to make sure that all officers,
especially those who are on duty, are on high alert.
ZTE’s efforts in ensuring the security and availability of communications during the
World Cup were recognized by Cell C. “By further acceleration and steady forward-looking
planning and execution of the network rollout, ZTE can and will deliver to Cell C one of the
most advanced telecoms networks in the world,” said Rikard Slunga, Chief of Network
Transformation for Cell C.
ZTE has been responsible for the communications and security of many high profile
events before, including the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games,
the National Day Parade in the 60th Anniversary celebration and other large-scale
ceremonies. ZTE has been verified by numerous experts that the company is on the front
line in protecting the operations and maintenance during the World Cup, providing citizens
and enthusiastic fans with fast and reliable network services.
Recently, China Daily says that ZTE Corporation, a leading Chinese
telecommunications-equipment maker, has confirmed the ZTE Peel sleeve for the iPod
Touch will debut in the United States on Sunday. A source at ZTE declined to reveal
details about the launch of ZTE Peel, but said an official press release will be issued in the
US by the telecom operator Sprint Nextel on Friday. "We have signed agreements with
our US partners, and we are not allowed to leak information before they (Sprint) release
an official announcement," the source told China Daily.
A few months ago, Yosion Technology, a Chinese IT company, developed a sleeve
for the iPod Touch, in which is embedded an Infineon GSM radio and battery pack to
enable the device to function as a normal iPhone. The company named its product "Apple
Skin 520", with a price tag of around $78. Apple Skin 520 enables iPod Touch users to
access phone calls and text messages, but it does not support WIFI or other data-access
functions. However, users have to "jailbreak" their iPod Touch by downloading non-Apple
software before they can use it.
ZTE's Peel has solved those connectivity problems as its 3G-and-WIFI-enabled
sleeve will allow customers to browse the Internet from their iPod Touch, use other
data-centric applications, and may possibly even enable access to phone calls, according
to some foreign media reports.
Last Friday the US blogger, Boy Genius Report, revealed that ZTE was cooperating
with Sprint to bring the Peel sleeve to US clients on Nov 14. On Monday it followed up the
earlier report, telling readers, "we've got cold hard evidence to confirm" ZTE Peel will
indeed hit the market on the specified date, and will retail for $79.99. Sprint will provide
Peel customers with a plan costing $29.99 a month that will include a 1 gigabyte data
allowance. Anyone exceeding that allowance will be billed at 5 US cents per megabyte,
according to Boy Genius Report. The Peel supports Apple's second and third-generation
iPod Touch, but not the fourth-generation hardware released in September.
From China to Brazil to Indonesia to Nordic countries, ZTE delivers a rich
communications experience by offering telecoms operators worldwide a full range of
network and service solutions that cover access, bearer, IPTV, videoconferencing, digital
home, and VASs. The 25 years since its inception in 1985 has witnessed ZTE’s endeavor
to connect the world through its wisdom and credibility. As always, we look forward to
growing with you and joining your hands to bring about a better world.
