Changes in School Over the Years
School has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I
was a tiny kid. I can still remember my very first day of
kindergarten, feeling both excited and nervous as I walked
through those big doors with my brand new backpack. Over the
years, so much has changed in terms of the way school works,
the things we learn, and even the buildings themselves.
When I was in kindergarten and 1st grade, everything felt so
big and overwhelming. The desks seemed massive, the hallways
felt like endless labyrinths, and the playground equipment
towered over me like giants. Back then, we spent a lot of time
learning the basics – counting, recognizing letters and numbers,
and getting used to the whole school routine.
Nap time was a regular part of our day in those early years. I
remember how we all had to bring our own little mats or
blankets from home, and we'd lay them out on the floor for our
afternoon snooze. It was always a struggle to stay awake during
that time, and I can vividly recall the feeling of being gently
shaken awake by my teacher after what felt like mere seconds of
sleep.
As we progressed through the grades, the curriculum
became more challenging, and we were expected to take on
more responsibilities. In 2nd and 3rd grade, we started learning
how to write in cursive, which felt like trying to decipher ancient
hieroglyphics at first. We also had our first taste of real
homework assignments, which meant no more carefree
afternoons of playtime.
One of the biggest changes I noticed as I got older was the
introduction of standardized testing. Starting in 3rd grade, we
had to take these big, intimidating tests that supposedly
measured our progress and knowledge. The days leading up to
the tests were always filled with anxiety and extra studying
sessions, and the actual test days felt like a marathon of bubbling
in answer sheets.
The school buildings themselves have also undergone some
major transformations over the years. When I was in the lower
grades, our classrooms were decorated with bright colors,
alphabet charts, and all sorts of educational posters plastered on
the walls. As we moved up to the higher grades, the classrooms
