When I was in Grade 8, I had an argument with my classmate, Tony. I have forgotten
what the argument was about, but I have never forgotten the lesson I learned that day.
I believed that I was right and he was wrong, and Tony believed that I was wrong and he
was right. Our teacher, a kind and clever lady, decided to teach us a lesson. She brought us to
the front of the class and placed him on one side of her desk and me on the other. In the
middle of her desk was a large and round object. I could clearly see that it was black. The
teacher asked us what color the object was. “White,” Tony answered. I couldn’t believe he
said the object was white! “Clearly, it was black!” Another argument started between Tony
and me, this time about the color of the object.
The teacher told me to go and stand where Tony was standing and told him to go and
stand where I was standing. We changed places, and now she asked me what color the object
was. I had to answer, “White.” It was an object with two differently colored sides—from his
side it was white, while from my side it was black. “Boys, now, what do you say?” The
teacher smiled at us. Tony has been my best friend ever since.
My teacher taught me a very important lesson that day:When you disagree with others,
you’d better be in their shoes. That will help you look at the situation through their eyes, and
truly understand their ideas and ways of thinking.
20.What did the teacher do at first?
A.She smiled at the boys.
C.She asked the boys a question.
B.She brought the boys to her desk.
D.She walked out of the classroom.
21.The writer gave two different answers because ________.

A.Try not to argue with others.
C.Many hands make light work.
Foods that are well known to you may not be familiar to people from different
(熟悉的)places around the world. Tourists and travelers often get to try some unfamiliar food. That is
part of traveling. Here are four people’s food experiences in foreign(外国的) countries.
David is a Thai student in France. “I never had cheese or even milk before I came to
France. Cows are seldom seen in my part of Thailand. So I didn’t have milk or milk products.
I drank some milk when I first arrived in France. I hated it! I tried cheese, too, but I didn’t
like it. I love ice cream, though that’s made from milk.”
Birgit is from Sweden. She traveled to Australia on vacation. “I was in a restaurant that
was special in fish. I heard some other people order flake
(薄鱼片), so I ordered some, too.
It was delicious! Later, I learned that flake is an Australian name for shark
(鲨鱼). Now,
whenever I see a new food, I try it on purpose. You know why? I remember how much I
enjoyed flake.”
Chandra is a doctor in Texas. She is from India. “I’m afraid to try new foods because
maybe there is beef in them. I’m a Hindu(印度教教徒) and my religion(信仰) stops me
from eating meat from the cow. That’s why I can’t eat hamburgers or noodles with
meatballs.”
Nathan is from the United States. He taught for a year in China. “My friend gave me
some 100-year-old eggs to eat. I didn’t like their appearances at all. The eggs were green
inside, but my friends said the color was OK. Chinese people put something on fresh eggs.
Then they put them in the earth for three months. So the eggs weren’t really very old. Even so,
I didn’t want to touch them.”
23.Chandra is afraid to try new foods because ________.
A.she can’t stand the taste
B.she can’t eat food with beef
试卷第4页,共9页
B.Great minds think the same.
D.Look at things in another way.
C.she doesn’t like foreign food
D.she doesn’t like their appearances
24.What can we learn from the passage? ________

B.Birgit doesn’t like trying new food.
C.David often drinks milk in Thailand.
D.The eggs are in the earth for 100 years.
25.Why does the writer write the passage? ________
A.To show us how to try foreign food.
B.To encourage us to eat more foreign food.
C.To introduce why people enjoy foreign food.
D.To tell us some experiences of eating foreign food.
They say once you learn how to ride a bike, you never forget. Most of us learnt when we
were kids, and many still ride fast around the streets. In recent times, biking has seen a rise in
popularity(人气上升), so the question is: what makes it so popular to people to ride their
bikes once again?
First, let’s look at the good for health. Biking can improve your health and burn extra
body fat. Exercising your legs helps to increase your strength. And
(消耗多余脂肪)(增加)biking’s good isn’t just physical, but mental as well. A long ride in the countryside
(精神的)could help you to clear your mind, or lower your worry.
There are also some good sides for your wallet’s health. Biking can be a great way to go
to work or go around town. By biking, you save money instead of driving a car or taking a
bus. If you drive to work, sometimes finding somewhere to park can be a very difficult thing.
However, finding somewhere to put your bike can be much simpler. Then, on the bus, there
are changes at stations and other passengers speaking loudly on their phones to deal with.
People who bike face neither of these problems. And if you’re worried about safety, there are
special bike ways in many big cities. Wearing high-visibility clothing is another
(高能见度)way to improve your safety when biking on the roads.
试卷第5页,共9页
Finally, biking can also be good for the environment. It can help you to reduce your
carbon footprint(减少碳足迹). Not giving gases out into the air is better for the earth and
your own environment.
So, whether people want to bike for their health, going around town, their wallets, the
environment, or all of them, the popularity of biking is on the rise.
26.The words “wallet’s health” in Paragraph 3 probably mean “ ________ ”.
A.saving money
C.keeping safe
27.The writer agrees that ________.
A.biking brings more problems
C.biking can make our mind clear

A.How biking improves your health.
B.Why biking is good for the environment.
C.How people keep safe while riding bikes.
D.Why the popularity of biking is on the rise.
B.biking in big cities is not safe
D.biking can increase our body fat
B.wasting money
D.keeping healthy
