二、 课文解析
课文概述
The author narrates what happened between her coach Nikolai and herself. At the first sight, Nikolai was not
half as intimidating as she had imagined he would be. Then in the following five years, though there were
countless training sessions full of pain and tears, the author could always be encouraged by Nikolai. Under his
instructions, the author earned a fourth-place national ranking heading into the pre-Olympic season. W hat’s more,
the author learned many other important things from Nikolai: she came to understand to have the courage, heart,
and discipline to persist, to have gratitude in advance for a century of life on earth, and to remind herself that there
must be love, love, love despite the challenges at hand.
本文作者记叙了她与教练尼克莱之间发生的故事。第一次见面，尼克莱一点也不像我想象的那么吓人。
然后作者回顾了在自己五年的运动生涯中，尼克莱对自己的言传身教：训练中的严格要求、遇到困难的积

The author narrates what happened between her coach Nikolai and herself. At the first sight, Nikolai was not
