I have lost count of how many times I have been to Chengdu, Sichuan. When

to check it out.
The Chengdu Museum is located in the center of the city, and it only took
a 20-minute subway journey to arrive there. The building was covered in glass
and looked 3 from the outside. As the museum ticket was 4 , I only needed
to show my ID card before 5 the museum. It was an early Friday morning, and
it was drizzling a little, 6
The first exhibition (展览) I visited was one about Chinese shadow puppetry

she prefers to watch TV. Neither of us would think of going outside for
exercise,” Zhu said.
Other parents are concerned about the safety of outdoor activities. Zhang
Zhijin has a son in high school. “Sometimes, teenagers can do crazy and risky
potatoes(电视迷), but not Luo Han, a 9-year-old from Changsha, Hunan.
Luo Han completes at least two hours of outdoor activities every day and

Although he is in primary school, he has already mastered sports like
kayaking (皮划艇) and paddling (划桨).
His aptitude (才能) for outdoor sports is due to his father Luo Ge, who
actively encourages him to enjoy nature, rather than focusing (关注) only
on his learning. After noticing that Luo Han did not go out for enough exercise
after school, his father took him to do outdoor activities every day.
Many applauded them.
“Exercise can ease brain fog (脑疲劳) and improve memory. Many students
feel stressed about school work, so outdoor activities can help us keep our
moods uplifted and improve our learning efficiency (效率),” said Liu Yu,
18, a university freshman.
Wang Tao, a parent of a 16-year-old, showed her support for the father.
“It’s more than a way to relax. It’s a training of willpower,” she said.
Her son He Xin, from Hefei Thomas School, Anhui, is a fan of outdoor sports.
Although facing increasing pressure in his studies, he has joined the
school’s athletic (运动的) programs.
However, some have also expressed their concerns (担忧).
“Two hours isn’t too much for a 9-year-old, but it might be difficult
for high school students to guarantee (确保) this block of time when school
becomes more demanding,” said Huang Xi, 16, from Liyang High School of
Jiangsu province.
Ms Zhu, who has a daughter in middle school, also agreed that two hours

Military ambition
Air shows were a Toth family tradition: For Mom Kathleen, Dad Pete and
their three boys, watching the military jets soaring and swooping (俯冲) over
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehust inspired awe (惊叹).
At one show, the oldest child Peter, in middle school at the time, saw
a flyer (传单) for Civil Air Patrol (CAP) – the civilian auxiliary (民间
后备队) of the US Air Force. The group accepts members 12 and up, and Peter
was intrigued (好奇的).
“I knew that serving my country was something I always wanted to do in
some capacity,” Peter Toth said.
The Toths supported Peter’s Civil Air Patrol activity, driving him 45
minutes each way from their home several times a week for everything from
volunteer meetings to search and rescue missions, encampments and physical
fitness drills (操练). They watched as he became a leader in high school –
excelling in the classroom, joining the National Honor Society and starting
a cyber patriot club.
Major Bill Petzinger, commander of the CAP’s McGuire Composite Squadron
(混合中队), said that when Peter was cadet (学员) commander, the squadron
thrived (蓬勃发展), and membership doubled.
That air show, and Civil Air Patrol, started the Barnegat High School
senior on a path to a remarkable feat (成就). Peter decided to shoot for the
three military academies. Applying to one academy is a grueling process that
requires numerous paperwork, physical fitness tests, multiple interviews and
a Congressional recommendation. Attempting to get into three felt like a
full-time job.
Eventually, he was offered admission to three US military academies: the
US Military Academy at West Point, New York, the US Naval Academy in Maryland
and the US Air Force Academy in Colorado. Their acceptance rates, respectively,
are just 9.6 percent, 8.4 percent and 11.9 percent.
Peter chose West Point. It has a well-established cybersecurity (网络
安全) program, Peter’s intended focus.
Peter is the first Barnegat student to gain admittance to a military
academy, high school principal Stephen Nichol said.
“He’s always got a smile on his face, no matter what kind of day it
is and what else is going on,” Nichol added.
