honour / honor 用法注意点
1.泛指一般意义的“荣誉”“光荣”“信誉”等，是不可数名
词；具体指“使感到光荣的事或人”或“荣幸”等，是可数名
词，但多用单数形式。如：
To lose honour is more than to lose life. 失去信誉（荣
誉）甚于失去生命。
It’s a great honour to receive that prize. 能获得那个
奖中无上的荣耀。
比较下面两句：
H brought honour to his family. 他为家庭争了光。
He is an honour to his family. 他是全家人的光荣。
2. do sb honour与do honour to sb都可以说，有以下两种
主要用法：
(1)对某人表示敬意或纪念。如：
They did honour to the dead. 他们向死者致敬。
(2)给某人带来荣誉或使某人受到尊敬。如：
His contributions to science do honour to our country.
他在科学上的贡献为祖国增了光。
比较同义句：
We attended his birthday party to do himhonour.=We
attended his birthday party to do honour to him. 我们
参加了他的生日晚会以表示对他的敬意。
3.用于do sb the honour of doing [to do] sth，用于修饰
honour的定语可以是不定式，也可以是of doing sth，其意
为“给某人面子做某事”“给某人做某事的荣幸”。如：
Would you do me the honour of dancing with me?=Would
you do me the honour to dance with me? 能请你跳曲舞吗?
类似地，用于have the honour of doing [to do] sth，用
于修饰honour的定语可以是不定式，也可以是of doing
sth，其意为“有幸做某事”“荣幸地做某事”。如：
May I have the honour of dancing with you?=May Ihave
the honour to dance with you? 能请你跳曲舞吗?
4.用于in honour of, 相当于一个复合介词，其意为“为
向……表示敬意”“为纪念……”“为祝贺……”“为欢
迎……”“为招待……”等。如：
We had a party in honour of his birthday. 为了祝贺他的
