Several months ago, 8-year-old Alex McKelvey set out to do some nice things for

people she didn’t even know.

For the past year, since her grandmother Linda died, the Washington girl and her

family have performed hundreds of acts of kindness.

“This is what her life was about, giving to others,” Alex said. She recently reached

a goal that helped her family and hundreds of people who’ve received their special

gifts.

Alex was up before dawn on Sunday volunteering in a local town. That alone could

have been her good deed for the day. But she was just getting started. By 8 am, the

McKelveys were ready for breakfast at a restaurant where they would complete their next

task.

Before they paid their bill, they asked the server to swipe their card for a couple

sitting a few tables away. But Alex wasn’t done yet. She then handed her server a 100-

dollar tip.

“Thank you, you guys are too sweet!” the server said, holding back tears.

But these good deeds aren’t as random

(随机的) as you might think. They’re part of an important list. “Sixty-one different

acts of kindness,” said Sarah McKelvey, Alex’s mom. And that was just for Sunday. The

McKelveys have taken a lot of time over the past year to make other people’s days. “It’

s been fun to come up with all these ideas, but it also kind of helps us too,” said Sarah.

In all, the McKelvey family completed 600 acts of kindness in time for what would

have been Linda’s 60th birthday on Sunday.
