My Favorite Book - Heidi by Johanna Spyri
I just finished reading the most amazing book! It's called
Heidi by Johanna Spyri and I have to tell you all about it. This
book is seriously one of the best I've ever read.
Heidi is about this really sweet little girl named Heidi who
lives with her aunt in a village high up in the Swiss Alps. Her aunt
isn't the nicest person though, and she makes Heidi do a lot of
chores around the house. But Heidi doesn't mind because she
loves being outdoors and admiring all the beautiful mountains
and flowers.
One day, Heidi's aunt decides she can't take care of her
anymore, so she sends Heidi away to live with her grandfather
who is a really grumpy old man living all alone up in the
mountains. At first her grandfather isn't very nice to Heidi either,
but soon Heidi's cheerful spirit wins him over and he starts to
love having her around.
Heidi makes friends with the goatherder named Peter and
they have the best times hiking in the hills, yodeling across the
valleys, and eating lots of delicious cheese and bread. Heidi even
helps this young girl named Clara who can't walk by bringing her
up to the mountain air which makes her stronger.
But then some people from Frankfurt convince Heidi's aunt
that she needs to come live in the city and get a proper
education. So poor Heidi has to leave her beloved mountains
and grandfather behind. She ends up living with this strict
governing family in the city, but she's just miserable there. The
only kind person is the grandmother who lets Heidi read her
wonderful books about Switzerland.
Not to give too much away, but eventually Heidi does find
her way back up to her grandfather's hut in the mountains. And
the best part is that Clara and her grandmother come visit too! I
won't ruin the ending for you, but I'll just say it's one of the
happiest, most heartwarming endings to a book I've ever read.
What I love most about Heidi is how kind, gentle, and
positive she is, even when adults around her are being mean or
unfair to her. Her spirit can't be dampened and she never loses
her love for nature and the simple things in life. Whenever I'm
