Hello! My name is Emma, and I'm a 5th grader. I love
learning English, and our class just finished Units 1 and 2 in our
new textbook. Let me tell you all about what we've learned!
In Unit 1, we talked about family and friends. We practiced
introducing ourselves and describing our families. I can say
things like "I have a mom, a dad, and a little brother named Jake.
He's really funny and loves to play video games." We also
learned how to talk about our friends and what we like to do
together. For example, "My best friend is Sophia. We love
playing soccer after school."
One of the coolest things we did was make family trees. I
drew pictures of my grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It
was really fun to see how big my family is! We also read a story
about a girl who moved to a new city and had to make new
friends. It helped me understand how hard that can be
sometimes.
In Unit 2, we learned all about hobbies and free time
activities. My favorite hobby is reading, so I was really excited
about this unit. We practiced saying things like "I enjoy reading
fantasy novels" and "My hobby is collecting stamps." We also
talked about how to invite friends over and make plans, like
"Would you like to come over and bake cookies this weekend?"
We read a super interesting article about different hobbies
that kids have around the world. Did you know that some kids in
Mongolia have the hobby of hunting with eagles? That's so cool!
We also learned about hobbies that help the environment, like
recycling and gardening.
One of my favorite activities was when we had to do
presentations about our hobbies. I talked all about my favorite
book series and why I love reading so much. It was fun to learn
about everyone else's hobbies too – my friend Michael showed
us his baseball card collection, and Lily demonstrated some
dance moves from her hip hop class.
Overall, these units were a lot of fun. I feel like I've learned so
many useful ways to talk about my family, friends, and hobbies in
English. I can't wait to see what else we'll learn in the next units!
English class is my favorite.
