Hong Xiuquan’s Former Residence
Hong Xiuquan's Former Residence is located in Guanglubu Village, Xinhua
Street, Huadu District of Guangdong City, which covers about 25,000 square
meters. It's not only the place where Hong Xiuquan grew up, studied and worked
but also the base for his early revolutionary activities.
Entering the Gate Tower of Guanlubu Village, you can see a path with green
trees in both sides. The Longan Tree was planted by Hong Xiuquan. Near the
Longan Tree, there is an old well with a history of 200 years. On the left side, stands
the "Study Attic " where Hong Xiuquan began to study at the age of seven and a
fishpond the Shadow of the Ya Mountain. While on the right side, there are lots of
old house, including Hakka House, the living house of Hong Xiuquan and the ruins
of HongRen Gan's Former Residence.
From the top of the blue sky, some birds are free to fly. Moving down our eyes,
the broomy leaves are comfortable to our eyes. What impress us most is that some
ancient lamps are attached to trees, bringing us back to the old the
trees we can catch sights of some colorful flowers and green grass, making the
environment more beautiful.
When it comes to the sunny world, it is peaceful here. The surface of the pond
is clam. We can not only see the shadow of the whole Guanlubu Village but also
see the shadow of the Ya Mountain, which gives us the delusion that there is
another world in this pond. While it is rainy, the shadow of the village and Ya
Mountain keep moving from side to side. The wind keeps tearing at the Longan
Tree's branches, causing them to bend and bow down. With the help of the nature,
the moving pond and tree are making a fantastic music.
Unfortunately, after the JinTian Uprising, the Qing Government went twice
separately in 1854 and 1864 to Guanlubu to carry through burning, killing and
plundering there. Many houses were burnt, mountains of revolutionaries and
villages were killed and plentiful belongings were looted. Hong Xiuquan's Former
Residence was also destroyed at that time. The present Hong Xiuquan's Former
Residence was rebuilt on the basis of its former address in 1959. In recent years,
our government has recovered some villages' houses in Guanlubu Village,
and and added to the display with " Guanlubu Folk-house Exhibition ",
"Folk-customs Exhibition ", "Selected Documents on Taiping Heavenly Kingdom
"and so on.
In such a simple and crude house, Hong Xiuquan made a remarkable
achievement, which let him become a great personage people. Therefore, we
should enrich us to make our country stronger in the peace time.
