【Abstract】The imagine of Shelley’s “Ode to the west wind” vividly represent manly beauty.
Reading this poem， we feel a vast boundless and grand emotional world.

I. An analysis of three main artifices
ⅰ. Lofty idea and boundless vigor
“Poem represents will”. Poet's excellent idea， grand spirit， its surface form is inevitably the
majestic and intense， great and boundless.
In the first chapter， the poet utilizes big style of writing， described the west wind’s power
which could shake the universe by the incomparable imposing vigour .She is the destroyer， crushing
dry weeds and smashing rotten wood by its swift and violent potential， sweeps away all draff and
left over evil. Everywhere the west wind reached， “Thou， from whose unseen presence the leaves
dead Are driven， like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing Yellow， and black， and pale， and hectic
red Pestilence-stricken multitudes” She also is the protector， blows the seed broadcasts， once
“Thine azure sister of the Spring With living hues and odours plain and hill”. In the
second chapter， the poet described the west wind in sky invincible might： She shakes earth，
surges the expansive sky， drives away thunder ，lightning， even rain and hail. But in the third
chapter， while flaunting the prestige the sea， the poet then has served as contrast the west wind
strength by Mediterranean Sea and row the old world， establish the new world，
replace severe despotic tyrannic winter by the world spring， this is Shelley's noble ideal， the great
mind， Shelley hope for freedom in his whole life， he had the rebellious spirit， his poem has filled
the despotic tyrannic protest， heartlessly exposed all sorts of evils of capitalism， he displayed the
deep love and the pursue to freedom， yearning for to ideal society. In Premethens Unbound， the
poet straight expressed the feelings.
ⅱ. Free and natural envision and grandiose artistic conception
“Ode to the west wind” begins with the wind， the cloud， the thunder， the electricity and the
drizzle hail. The stage for these natural objects activities are the boundless sky， vast oceans.
According to the record， this poem accomplished in 1819’s fall， in Italy's Florence. Once a day，
with a storm， the poet wrote down this poem with his feeling. But the nature in the poem， the

description actually above the naturalness. The poet utilizes his richly unusual imagination， with
these natural elements， composed to a world full-filled manly beauty.

uncontro11able，impetuous and so on， was precisely as a result of these verbs and the adjective use.
Enable in the poem these to have originally the intense person or household who refuses to move and
bargains for unreasonably high compensation when the land is requisitioned for a construction project
and the strength implication image （for example wind， cloud， 1ightning， storm， sea，vain，
hail）.Therefore in this line has used [ ki ]， [ k ] （cleave themselves into chasms） and so on is
loud， not the harmonious sound.
In first two lines， as a result of monosyllable note word many， between word and word sound
concordance high， rhythm anxious but bold， is consistent with the mighty waves tumbling，
“pant”， “power”， “impulse”， “strength” and so on several important words， display the wave
from the person or household who refuses to move and bargains for unreasonably high compensation
when the land is requisitioned for a construction project and the strength.
II. Conclusion
The entire poem structure， word choosing， the rhetoric technique utilization， the rhythm and
the acoustic reasonable arrangement， all by different increased and strengthens the entire poem male
wonderful to be beautiful.
“Ode to the west wind” is attracting a generation of successor by its profound ideological content
and male wonderful artistic beauty， And inspires and drove the people for establish a happy new
world but to struggle， but its author then forever will take a young soldier， “genuine
revolutionary”， “Socialism vanguard” （Marx） but manner engraved inscription.
